WordWise: What is a leviathan?

Unicorn:
Today: A monstrous sea creature mentioned in the Bible. or Something unusually large of its kind.
   1611: ???.
Leviathan. As with behemoth, modern scholars don't spend much time thinking about this before they give their interpretations, so they make some striking errors. Some describe it as a whale, some as a crocodile, and some, though not with any certainty, identify it as a dragon.
Let us examine the Bible's description and see what it is.
No one eats or markets it. Even in Job's time, someone probably ate crocodiles. People today do. People also buy and sell crocodile and alligator skins, and may have in Job's time. There's no reason they couldn't have. People have also, for hundreds of years, possibly even in the time of Job, eaten and marketed whales. The Bible says it is frightening and uncapturable, and that no one dares to disturb it. This also eliminates crocodiles and whales. Also, whales don't have scales; they're mammals. And crocodiles don't breathe fire. Some might say nothing can breathe fire. Consider the Bombardier Beetle. It sprays chemicals out of its rear that combine in midair to produce flames and 212 degree heat, which burns its enemies.
Leviathan could also have had a system similar to this for sending flames out its mouth and nose. Leviathan is described as being so dangerous that even the most mighty are afraid of it, and one might faint at just seeing it. This fearless beast has been described in legends throughout history.
The theory that makes the most sense is that this creature is a dragon, or in today's language, a dinosaur: Tyrannosaurus Rex.
